four - friday
Day four started off a little later. I kept waking up in the middle of the night due to being use to my Virginia schedule. I even got a call at like 4am (10 am Eastern time), answered it with no hesitations or angst, and it was the mattress people letting me know they didn't fuck up this time. I will have a mattress at the new place come tuesday! yes!
walked on over to whaler's village to catch the dollar bus to Lahaina

needless to say, it was slam packed. Got there and went straight to the moped rental place. It was way more expensive than what I expected it to be, but totally worth it. I rode the fuck out of that thing. Here she is...

an uncomfortable, seat sloped down, little red 50cc scooter. I drove it to the ground. went and explored the western tip of Maui. I cruised up and down front street, which is part of Lahaina town, searching for anything surfable. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I drove back up the highway in hopes in finding flemings beach. This is where the break was suppose to have a little bump. Never found it : ( but it didnt keep me from exploring. I did find this awkwardly intriguing cemetary. Covered in dirt and stones, it was an older Japanese cemetary. Super beautiful. it lined the beach for about a block or so.

i was set back by the sheer awesomeness of this resting place for dead, then I saw this on a nearby dumpster.

I can respect culture, but I just cant respect that. sorry : (
i went back to thrashing the streets of western maui. Here's a video of me being stupid. 45mph, and working some angles
about a mile or so down from the cemetary, I ran into a local and his kid selling poi from the back of his truck!!!!! this is the kind of shit i wanted to experience while i was here, so i forked over some cash for the goods.

went back to the hotel to try it out, and actually put sunscreen on, bc like an idiot, i didnt before i got the moped, and i had already been out for 2 hours ripping through the streets.
*** i did make a video of me trying poi, but i look like an idiot. i make a very disgusted face, then proceed to say it tastes like glue.***
i wasn't impressed with the hype about poi. I immediately text message a friend to ask what should i do to make my poi experience better and she gave me some pointers. i skipped on that though. I decided to go to lunch instead. I went to the same exact place since the food was free.
of course i had another big swell ipa. I had the california rolls as an appetizer (refer to last post), then i had the "maui plate" special.

Top left: potato/macaroni salad. next to that, pickled veggies
Top right: steamed white rice...nom
Bottom left: herb batter crusted chicken breast
Bottom right: a teriyaki'd beef
and theres a sauce in the top right of the picture for the chicken and beef that just tasted like soy sauce and teriyaki mixed together.
all in all the meal was awesome. That big swell ipa is fucking amazing.
back to scooter terrorizing. you can see the signs to the start of my sunburn. angles, i haz them.

came across an actual Local Motion shop. The dood was very humble and awesome. We just talked about randomness and breaks. I ended up going back on day 5 to buy extra luggage due to the friendliness

two seconds down the road was this........oh fuck!

went to town and searched for a co-workers request that she paid me for. That took up all my time before I had to go back to the hotel to get ready for the Luau. Sunburned as fuck, i decided to take a cold shower. Idiot me decided it would be a great idea to wash my face with face wash. After about a minute of sitting, I screamed and immediately rushed my face under the shower head. Felt like a straight chemical burn. I got out of the shower to put on the aloe t-mobile supplied, and it immediately evaporated on my face due to the heat. haha! Fucking hate being sunburned.
all of the winners gathered in the courtyard to take one big group photo. I stood in the back and all the way to the left so that way i could stand out in bright flannel and find myself later. haha. They made us say "stick together" and "peak achievement" as we were taking the pictures. T-mobile hates me, i know it. So i just let out a mutter both times that had the same rhythm but could be loosely translated to, "ugghhhhhh ooogaraaaaaaahhhhh."
we get to the luau and it was obviously set up for the touristy visiting groups, but honestly, it was my FAVORITE part about the trip. I could name a hundred things that went wrong during my hawaiian trip (most of which you'll read about in my next post), but the luau made me love hawaii. Its pretty much what i wanted to experience with hawaii. Chatted with some local doods who were just chill spirited and stoked on their culture. here's some pics

these guys supplied the background music for dinner and the night, and for most of the presentation later. What makes me even more stoked is that the dood would throw up a shaka for my picture while playing, and just smiled. The culture is just way hospitable, even if its for a sunburnt tourist. thanks dood!

greg and i took advantage of the photo oppurtunity that the Hawaiian sunset gave us.

sunburned as fuck!

moving on to my favorite part. you guessed it, food! Everyone gathered around the pit while these dood's just told the story and tradition behind cooking the pig underneath the ground.

then the unveiling came, and people went nuts with their cams. myself included, but for you readers of course... not because im some stereotypical tourist : p

this is what the pit looked like after the pig and gentlemen left.

once the pig meat was separated and set up, everything was put in place buffet style

i got everything worth trying. everything i came to hawaii for pretty much. everything else was just normal buffet food with an island twist. This is what i had been waiting on my whole trip.

- melon
- Ahi Poke (yellowfin tuna). a salad mixed with onions and some other veggies
- pineapple dividing the two salads
- He'e Poke (octopus). a salad mixed with tomatos and other herbs and veggies.
- Uala (sweet potato)
- BBQ Guava Glazed Chicken
- Pua'a Lay Lau (pork wrapped in taro root)
- Pulehu Steak
- Kalua Pua'a
- Mahi Mahi
- and being cut half off in the right of the picture in the black cup, Poi. yeah i gave it a second try.
I was going to do a write up review for each, but all of them would say the same thing... "FUCKING AMAZING!!!!" holy fuck was everything so good. Poi+Pork = AMAZING! best shit ever, and also the best advice i could get from my friend earlier.
here was dessert

After dinner the hosts of the luau did a presentation of their culture and history from the beginning to present times through dancing, drums and music, story telling, and chants. Not to sound like a tourist again, but it was beautiful. I loved it. I stood the whole time and didnt miss one second of it. i didnt take many pictures bc none of them were coming out good, but it was seriously so amazing. Seeing people that are waaaaaaaay into their culture like that is truly inspiring, and something you dont really see back home. Def backed, and def something that made my trip in maui awesome.

we went back to the hotel to conclude the night. i was sweating hard, not from the flannel but from the sunburn on my face. Nobody was really up for anything bc everyone was exhausted, and even more so after eating the most amazing meal i've had since being in Maui.
although still no surf, day 4 was the absolute best day in Maui, Hawaii.

Jour Trois
Wednesday night I went to sleep with a dilemma that I had to immediately face as soon as I woke up the next morning. As you may already know from the last post, I rented a car on wednesday. That car was due back at 10am the next morning. I also REALLY wanted to go to the foam company right when they were open (9 am) to pick up a new board and bag, and be back to return my rental on time. Something you may also already know from the previous post is that I was scheduled to go on the super duper kayaking/snorkeling adventure!!!11!1!!!z0mgz! oh yeah, at 7am. I woke up around 6 to get ready for this adventure, still undecided if I would actually go. The real dilemma other than the fact I didn't want to go, was that I wouldn't be able to return the car. I personally wanted to return the car because I set up the $250 hold on my credit card, but wanted to pay when I returned it with my bank card. I talked to the lady who was gathering everyone at breakfast about my dilemma. I told her I had e-mailed the coordinator 2 weeks ago about my cancellation and interest in switching my activity, and that I got no response. She just responded that I'm just going to have to talk to the coordinator later in the day..... what good would that have done for me seeing as how I needed to leave for my original activity in 5 minutes.
***interruption... the motto of the day (day 3/thursday that is) is "fuck it!"
It is to be used as a saying when negative consequences dont effect your decision making.
ie:
Bob: Let's go party, get wasted bro!
Joseph: I can't man, I have a test to study for
Bob: Dood we can totally fuck some slutzzzz!
Joseph: You're right, Fuck it! ***
anyways... I ate my bowl of fruit loops and a plate full of pineapple and watermelon before we had to leave. People started to get up to head towards the shuttle. I instead u-turned to my hotel room. Fuck it! (1) I decided that I'm going to enjoy Hawaii the way that I want to. That is exploring shit on my own, and making a concious effort in dipping my dick in some hawaiian waves. Also, not having the right card charged was a weighing factor as well. I get a mean call to my hotel phone saying "we have you scheduled for the 7am kayaking trip, its now 7:20. Are you not going?" I replied with a "no, Fuck it! (2)"
So I begin my journey from resort-fucking-ville kaanapali (A) to The Foam Company which is in Kahului (B). About 45 minutes away

They opened at 9, I left at 8:20, with a goal to be back by 10am to return the rental. Realistic? maybe, but most likely not

Fuck it! (3)
the drive was beautiful! It's practically the same route that we took from the airport when I first arrived. My left side the whole way was lined mountains, and my right was water, and the occasional strip of shops or restaurants. pix/vidz or it didn't happen...

once I got into the trip a little bit more, you're actually whipping and winding along side the mountains on a two lane road. There's a pic later that shows a better example.
(im going to start making sure I upload these videos to better quality and not "standard." I apologize. that vid doesnt do the scenery ANY justice!)
so I actually arrived in outstanding time. had about 20 minutes to blow, so I went to the pharmacy that was connected. Picked up some postcards, stamps, and some blank cds. The place was pretty much an outdoor mall. It was cool. A whole bunch of little shops and restaurants. I came across this one place the day before, but in Lahaina, and couldnt help but laugh.

Elvis totally recommended it, it's a chain sushi fast-food place. BUTTTTT, the logo isn't too stoked, he's mad. The word "genki" contradicts the logo because its suppose to mean "good" in a way. Its pretty hilarious to me. I didn't eat there either way, I had a timed schedule.
finally arrived!

got in, was greeted and helped by this local girl. Totally fucking awesome, in a little brother kinda way. I was going to pick up another LMNOP Skipp comp because I already knew what I liked, but I said Fuck It! (4). If im going to get/pay for another board, and bring it back with me, why would I get the same exact thing? I was always eager about the No. 6 boards when they released them a few years ago, but stuck with the LMNOP when I got my new Skipp. She went on about definitely recommending those boards, and that they last forever. It was also $3 (three, not a typo) less than the Skipp. Money saving, ya know? haha
here's what I picked up.
41.5 No.6 Bludgeon
w/ Bully bicep leash, which she went ahead and plugged for me (fuck yeah it's pink, Fuck It! (5). beats black, brown, and orange)

Yeah, I already stickered her up with a no friends sticker and the shop's own sticker. had to show some love.

I also got a new bag (refer to last post). Just their own company's bag. Same price as most of the other brand name bags, but as mentioned, I just wanted to show some love. Plus it came in the crayola famous color "hXc Camo"

I spent way too much money.. Not for the products, but for the fact that I already have another board, but I couldn't bring it with me. But I guess just like the shades, I now have variety and I wasn't going to risk not being able to surf while in Hawaii. Fuck it! (6). I also picked up some goods to bring home. The girl and I just chatted for a minute. We talked about why I was here in Maui, and which breaks to check out. Overly impressed by the place and the customer service.
(* * * * *) 5 stars = The Foam Company.
time went by fast, it was now 9:30am, and my car was due back at 10am. no cops, DRIVE FAST!
Loved looking at the gps during this ride. Although im a cop car haha, look at all the water on the left. oh shit! bottom left corner!

GPS had me to arrive at the Lahaina Cannery mall at 10:07, which was still another 10 minutes away from the hotel. I also had to refill the gas tank before returning, or they would've charged me some ridiculous fee.
at first i was like

then I was like, Fuck It! (7). I just called them up and told them that I'd be about 20 minutes late, that I was just looking for a gas station, and that I was 10 minutes up the road.
drove through this (here's the follow up to the mountains along the side comment I made earlier)

probably would've arrived earlier, but i was driving behind this asshole who did about 5-10 under the speed limit the whole time it seemed for about 15 miles

got to a gas station that was maybe 5 miles away from my stay. only had to fill up a gallon or so. there was a local couple in a truck with two blue pit puppies in the bed. Not stoked on puppies being in the back, but they were cute as fuck! no pics unfortunately, would of been awkward bc he was filling up too. haha. got back to the hotel, unpacked my shit out of the car, and was glad to be getting out of the compact hearse

or was it just an opportunity for me to up teh punx? rental car somehow with "fees" and "govt charges" went from $65 to $110...FML. But you know what, I got to take that beautiful drive. Got to go to a shop that's nothing but bodyboarding, which is amazing to me, and i got to experience a little bit of maui. So Fuck It! (8)
Went to my room to take pics of the board, bullshit on artinheart, and take a dump. Went downstairs to get free lunch, and Greg and Katie walked up just as I did. What a pleasant surprise! Love these two. They've been so fun. I had the same Big Swell IPA, and the same Lettuce wraps. But i also got the california roll, so they think, and a pina colada.

HUUUUUGE rolls, and honestly the BEST pina colada i've ever had. Used with fresh ingredients. So delicious.
after lunch, we decided to go to Whaler's Village. Which is pretty much another outdoor mall with multiple levels that was only about a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Tons of touristy shops.

they had a strictly Volcom store though. I don't buy a lot of surf shop style clothing, but i love volcom.

Picked up a tank top. They also had a keychain that had a little leather rectangle pouch of sorts. when you opened it, out came 3 colored dice for C-LO. Way fucking stoked on it. Just not $20 stoked. didn't go with the motto of the day on this one.
walked around, did some more souvenir shopping for family and friends

this is pretty much everything. Local coffee, tshirts and souvenirs, fruits, cigars, everything! oh yeah, and beer and liquor. These are everywhere, and they're in 2 of the three malls I've been to since being here.
saw this:

-biscuits
split with katie and greg, so I could go back and shower before tonight, then meet back up for some drinks. got to my hotel room, chilled for a minute before I took a shower. Ok, so everyday when I come back from being out, house keeping keeps switching up the shower head from this:

to this:

im not a little person! i know my pubes need to be washed, shampoo'd, and conditioned, but fuck!!!!! leave it alone! Keep it on the top hook. It's purposeless to be that low. there's no kids here with me.
we ended up meeting back up for drinks at this place, The Hula Grill.

it was fucking awesome. The service was excellent. The calamari I had, which i forgot to take a pic of because i nom'd the fuck out of it immediately, was presented and tasted beautifully. They sliced it long ways rather than across like normally done. The floor to the restaurant was just the beach. It was cool, and these little birds were EVERYWHERE!!!!!

they were flying by your face, running across your toes, and just chillin. I liked it! I also liked the live music. These two older hawaiian doods jamming out some local music with a few covers. They played two Bob Marley songs while we were there. It was done flawlessly. Picture sucks dick though bc the sun was directly behind them.

we left and had to get ready for the dinner party. They went crazy with this one.. Balloon artists for the children. caricature artists. Henna tattoo artists so people could get the sweet tribal armbands they've always wanted without the commitment. The best part were the exotic birds. They had two stations, each had two birds. one so that one half of the couple could hold, and the other half of the couple holds the other bird. Luckily I'm awesome, and I came by myself. I planned this whole thing! break up with girlfriend, come to hawaii all alone, just so I could hold BOTH fucking birds! I win motherfuckers!

u jealous?
ate some food.

listened to this bullshit band.

stole a photo of my CEO dancing with his kid... this doods so chill and low-key. refer to sandals

they were giving away some g1 t-shirts as well. By giving away, I mean placing whatever they had left over and putting them on a random table so that passer-bys would maybe grab one, two, or if youre like greg, 12. Haha! They had no normal sizes, no smalls, mediums, larges, xl's, but luckily they had my size. xxxxl/4xl

shirt says "curiosity is everywhere." curiosity makes me wonder what else I could fit under that joker!
we decided to head back to the hula grill for desert, which I didnt take a picture of at all again, I'm sorry. but i wont even go into explaining bc it was tooooooo fucking good to talk about. The only way to describe it is MMMmmmmmMMmMMMmm NomNomNonomNom. before we got there, we took non-virgin margaritas the t-mobile dinner party was supplying and went back to gregs room to spike them. Katie couldnt finish hers, and asked if I could.....sure, why not?

I was already passed drunk at this point, and it was definitely the first time I've been drunk or even buzzed since being here.
on the way to dessert, there was a little booth that sold paintings. they were closed, but I promised myself that the next day I would go buy this beautiful portrait of a yellow lab with down syndrome. please click to enlarge.

fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
we ate dessert, split ways, and on the way to my room I found this little dood

history always repeats itself... I had to try again since I failed with frederick the frog in The Adirondacks, New York.
last summer:

Last night:

and once again, history did repeat itself. Timmy the toad high-tailed it the fuck out of there, leaving me prince-less and with warts.

this is when I bidded farewell myself. I concluded the night with masturbation. muaahahaha
ps. heres that same shot of the hotel, but during the day

then I was like, Fuck It!
I concluded the night with masturbation. muaahahaha
